Cabin delivery back garden

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a building consent?

Our cabins are all under 30sqm, transportable, and do not have water connections, meaning that they will not usually require a building permit.

It's advisable to consult your local council for any specific rules, like height to boundary regulations, regarding the placement of your cabin near your property's boundary. We can assist you with any questions you have about this.

When can you deliver the cabin?

We aim to deliver your cabin within a few days, but this depends on cabin availability and the accessibility of your site.

We deliver cabins all over the central North Island area, from the Bay of Plenty to Taranaki. We're based in Ohakune and Tauranga.

Is there a minimum rental term?

Usually 3 months, however get in touch with us to see if we can help if you have something shorter in mind as we may be able to accommodate.

How are the cabins delivered?

We have a custom made tipping trailer to get our cabins into place. Our cabins are built on skids, not on wheels, making them easier to get into tight spots, more stable and closer to the ground.

How much space do I need for a portable cabin?

You'll need 3m width access to have the cabin towed onto your site.

Our cabins are 2.6m high, but on the trailer they require 3.6m of clearance from trees and powerlines.

For placing the cabin, it depends on the size you've ordered, but for a standard cabin you will need around 3m x 5m of somewhat flat ground (although we may be able to help you out if you don't have flat ground - get in touch).

What if I don't have enough width access?

If you don't have 3m width of access, we can usually arrange for a Hiab truck crane to lift the cabin over and into place. Get in touch to find out what costs would apply for your area.

How close to the fence can the cabin be?

It depends on your local council, so check with them first. Usually you are required to be 2.5m off the boundary of the property, but this isn't always the case.

Is there a delivery or collection fee?

Yes. There is single delivery fee, which includes bringing the cabin to you, placing it, levelling, and then removing it when you're done. How much the fee is depends on what area you are in and any complications (like requiring a Hiab), but usually ranges between $150-300.

Can we pick up the cabin ourselves?

No. Our cabins are designed for a custom-made tipping trailer. This allows us to deliver the cabin into tight spots.

Can we buy a cabin from you?

No, sorry our cabins are only for rent, but do enquire about our best price for long term rentals.

How do we connect power?

Our cabins are built with an outdoor power socket and long heavy duty lead. This plugs into a standard 3 pin power socket in your house or garage.

Inside the cabin there are 2-3 power points for plugging in your TV etc. There are internal and external lights, and all cabins come with an Electrical Warrant of Fitness, a switchboard and smoke alarm for your safety.

How warm are you cabins?

All our cabins are supplied with a panel wall heater for keeping you toasty warm, and all the windows and doors are double glazed.

All cabins are insulated with batts in the walls, ceilings and floors, to residential standard.

Do the cabins have curtains and carpets?

Yes. All of our cabins have curtains and are carpeted.

Do the cabins have a toilet and bathroom?

No, to avoid requiring a building permit our cabins do not have water connections, and therefore no toilets or bathrooms.

Is a bond required, and do I get it back?

Yes, the bond can vary from area to area, but usually is no more than $300. At the end of the hire period, and the cabin is returned in great condition and clean, your bond is refunded back to you.

I rent my property, should I ask my landlord if I can have a cabin?

It's always a good idea to let your landlord know what you are planning. Our team can help if they have any concerns about this process.

Do you provide WINZ quotes?

Yes, we are approved by WINZ as able to supply portable accommodation so we are happy to provide a quote for them.

What can I fit inside a cabin?

All of our cabins will comfortably fit a Queen sized bed along with some other pieces of furniture. Get in touch with our team if you need more of an idea for your requirements.
